How Buffalo pays
Buffalo doesn't use paylines. It uses what Aristocrat calls All Pays: a spin costs 40 coins, and a win is one matching symbol on each reel from the left, anywhere on those reels [1]. With four rows on five reels that makes 1,024 possible combinations — that number is our arithmetic, since the online rules don't print it.
The wild appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It stands in for everything except the scatter. The scatter pays anywhere: 80 coins for three, 400 for four, 800 for five, times the coin size [1].
The free games and the ×27
Three, four or five scatters start 8, 15 or 20 free games. Two scatters during a free game add five more, and the whole feature can trigger again [1].
What makes Buffalo is the wild in those free games. Each wild on reels 2, 3 or 4 multiplies the win for that spin by 2 or 3. The splash screen promises wins multiplied "up to 27 times"; our reading is three tripling wilds on one spin, 3 × 3 × 3.
